Description: As we witness the impacts of extreme weather events and human-induced climate change, many wonder what kind of economic and social changes are needed to ensure we can live peacefully with nature. Co-operatives, many of whom have the potential to go beyond traditional extractivist business practices, can be meaningful contributors to a green transition. But what sort of examples already exist, and how do they do it? Thanks to a recent study, we will hear from researchers on specific examples from around the globe on the role of co-operatives in solving environmental challenges, what makes the enterprise model well suited to the task, and insights on how co-operatives might play a bigger role in climate action. The study has been undertaken within the Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA) signed between the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and the European Commission in 2016. It was released September 23 and is available here: https://bit.ly/2Z8Eotr
